Color is one of the most important and often overlooked factors in designing roller shades. However fabric color plays a significant role in the quality of the shade from the user’s perspective. The main idea here is that darker colored fabrics will absorb more heat and allow greater visibility and lighter colored fabrics will reflect more heat but reduce outward visibility. The ideal situation of course is a shade that reflects the most amount of heat, reduces glare AND gives the greatest outward visibility. How we are working to correct this is with two-tone fabrics, white on the outside for example and black on the inside, or darker colored fabrics with an aluminized or metalized finish applied to the window side.

Fenestration Properties:

  • Solar Transmittance (Ts) - Ratio of the total amount of solar energy allowed to pass through the glazing system.
  • Solar Reflectance (Rs) - Ratio of the total amount of solar energy being reflected by the glazing system.
  • Solar Absorption (As) - Ratio of the total amount of solar energy absorbed by the glazing.
  • Visible Transmittance (Tv) - Ratio of amount of total visible solar energy allowed to pass through a glazing system related to the amount of glare a person receives.
  • Shading Coefficient - Measures reduction in solar gain that is achieved by use of shading device as well as measuring the amount of energy passed through an opening.
    • Total amount of solar energy passing through the assembly
    • The lower the coefficient value, the more effective the shading device.
    • Used to provide indication of the relative efficiency of different shading systems.
  • Openness Factor - The measure of the total open space in the woven fabric. Measured as UV passage through the material.

Solar Shading Collection:

  • SuperScreen - Composed of flame resistant PVC Coated fiberglass yarns, these fabrics feature a one one-over, two-under weave to produce a subtle striation. Stable and durable, they are engineered to hang flat and perform well for the life of the shade. SuperScreen fabrics are available in a variety of colors and openness levels.
  • SuperWeave - The basket weave of these fabrics offers an appearance of quiet strength. Durable PVC coated fiberglass yarns assure they perform as well as they look, with stability and flame resistance. SuperWeave fabrics are available in a variety of colors and openness levels.
  • SuperTwill - The Twill weave of these fabrics offer exceptional solar control performance with durable PVC Coated fiberglass yarns that ensure stability and are flame resistance. SuperTwill fabrics are available in a variety of colors and openness levels.
  • GreenScreen® - Is a PVC Free solar shading fabric that is composed of high tensile polyester. The GreenScreen ® line offers more choices for openness and color options than any other PVC free line. These high performance environmentally sustainable shading fabrics are flame retardant, meeting the standards for both North America and Europe.
  • GreenScreen® Platinum - Fabrics feature an aluminized exterior fabric face that delivers optimal glare control and outward visibility. Fully maintains the FR, dimensional stability, and design choices of the GreenScreen line.
  • Dual Color GreenScreen® - Fabrics combine a distinct design aesthetic with very strong properties for managing light and glare. Offers the ability to specify a consistent fabric color to face the exterior without giving up varying color choices for the interior.
